Donovan Kirk

D onovan Charles Kirk, 92, of Sabetha, Kansas went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 24, 2020.

Donavon was born August 16, 1927 in Canby, Minnesota, the son of Hobart and Alice (Carstens) Kirk.  He spent his adult life in Sabetha.  Donovan graduated from Wetmore High School in 1945 where he met his future wife, Betty Lucille George.  They were united in marriage on November 29, 1947 in Holton, Kansas.

Donovan went to the Navy in April of 1945 as a 1st class fireman and got out in November of 1946.  He worked at McDaniel Motor in Wetmore until 1953.  In 1953, he purchased the Standard Oil station later known as Amoco in Sabetha, and ran it until he retired in 1990.  Donovan was a member of the Sabetha Golf Club, American Legion and Sabetha VFW Post # 7285. He loved to play golf, hunt, and fish.

Donovan was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Wilma Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille; his son Raymond; his daughters, Margaret (Bill) Crawford and Mary Kirk; his grandsons, Michael Kaul and Eric Fritton; his granddaughter, Robyn (John) Heimburger and five great-grandchildren; his sisters, Naomi Michie and Margery Budd; and his brother, Arthur Kirk.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at the Wetmore Cemetery. At Donovan’s request there will be no viewing. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia Street, Sabetha, KS 66534.
