Eleanor Hickman

Eleanor Fern Hickman, 68 of Axtell, Kansas, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital in Seneca, Kansas.

Eleanor was born September 1, 1940 to Elmer and Evelyn Finney at her home west of Americus, Kansas. She was the youngest of seven children, four brothers and two sisters.

She loved sports, painting pictures, entertaining her family and friends and camping.

She was a member of the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Axtell, Kansas.

She married Gene Hickman on October 11, 1975 in Amarillo, Texas; he survives of the home in Axtell. Kansas.

Other survivors include a daughter, Denise Marie Sandbothe and her husband Randy of Walnut, Iowa; two brothers, Bill Finney of Emporia, Kansas and Clayton Finney of Dunlap, Kansas; two sisters Mary Elizabeth Sowers, who lives near Houston, Texas, and Roberta Kay Lewis of Dunlap, Kansas; and Four grandchildren nieces, nephews, loving in laws and many dear friends.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Charles and Gene Finney.

Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Axtell at 10:00 am. Father Albert Hauser OSB will celebrate the mass. The St. Michael's Choir will sing, On Eagles Wings, I Am the Bread of Life, You Are Mine, How Great Thou Art and Here I Am Lord. Kathy Buessing will play the organ and Darlene Huerter will sing Saftley and Tenderly. The Lector will be Mary Jane Rochel. Servers are Zach Heinen, Mitchell Kuckelman and Courtney Heinen. Eucharistic ministers are Kent Kuckelman, Regis Rochel and Randy Sandbothe. Randy and Denise Sandbothe and Rachel Long served as gift bearers. Casket bearers are Tyson Thomas, Joshua Thomas, Andrew Long, Mike Osterhaus, Jim Osterhaus, and Marvin Bernasek. Burial will be in the St. Bridget Cemetery.

Mrs. Hickman will lie in state all day Tuesday at the Landreth-Popkess Funeral Home in Axtell and The Rosary will be prayed Tuesday evening at 7:30 at the St. Michael's Catholic Church, Axtell.

Memorials are being left to the Eleanor Hickman Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the Landreth-Popkess Funeral Home, Axtell, KS. A specific organization will be named at a later date.
