John "Butch" Alspach

October 15, 1942 — November 27, 2021

J ohn “Butch” William Alspach, 79, of Sabetha, Kansas died on Saturday, November, 27, 2021 at the Sabetha Community Hospital.

Butch was born on October 15, 1942 in Washington, D.C the only child of John Charles and Elva (Hewitt) Alspach.   He attended Suitland High School in Forestville, Maryland a suburb of Washington D.C. and graduated in the class of 1960.

He entered the United States Air Force and served three tours of duty in Vietnam.  After serving his country for 26 years, he retired from the Air Force.

He was united in marriage to Joyce Shump in 2003 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He loved his family, his dogs, Norman and Dolly, and his country.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of the home in Sabetha; two children, Roger Housholder and his wife, Anna, of Topeka, Kansas, Jackie Lyda and her husband, Richard, of Salina, Kansas; three step-children, Wayne Studer of Sabetha, Dennis Studer and his wife, Tammy, of Sabetha, Jude Michael and her husband, Rick, of Topeka, Kansas; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one cousin, George (Pat) Vaughn of Washington, D.C.

Services will be at a later date and time.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Brown County Humane Society sent in care of the Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia Street, Sabetha, Kansas   66534.
