February 17, 1926 — December 12, 2019

T he family of Mavis Marti wishes to share the news of her passing on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at the age of 93. Mavis was the wife of Leroy Marti, who preceded her in death. Mavis was born to Fred and Anna (Reist) Ehrsam in 1926, living on the family farm until she married Leroy Marti and moved down the road 3 miles. She spent her life in the Bern community until health necessitated a move to the Apostolic Christian Nursing Home.

One of her passions was teaching, which began after high school graduation when she taught at Ehrsam Country School and Excelsior Country School. Later she went back to university to obtain her teaching degree, which led to teaching in Kelly and Seneca Grade Schools.

Her other passion was traveling. She crisscrossed the USA on many bus tours, as well as flew over the Atlantic to visit relatives and friends in Switzerland.

Mavis is remembered by her family and friends as a great pie baker and a prolific quilter. In younger days, she loved gardening, with produce canned and frozen to share with family. Neighbors and family will remember her love of mowing and being outdoors tending the yard.

Mavis was cremated. A private graveside service will follow at the Bern Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bern Community Library, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia St., Sabetha, KS 66534.
