Centralia, KS - Mayo Gerald Long, 91, died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Crestview Manor, Seneca, KS.

Mayo was born May 14, 1917 at Ionia in Jewell County Kansas the son of Everett Henry Long and Martha Ann Roller. He attended country schools and Beverly High School. He married Margaret Gough September 20, 1934 at Salina. She preceded him in death July 23, 1998.

Mr. Long had been a farmer and stockman. In the late 1950's he started working for the Centralia grain elevator and later became the manager. Following his retirement he also worked or managed the grain elevators in Lillis and Vliets, KS. He was a member of the Centralia United Methodist Church. Survivors of Mr. Long include two sons, Gerald Duane Long and wife Miriam and Vernon L. Long and wife Sharon, both of Topeka; four daughters, Marsha Davis, Seneca, Cathi Long, Salina, Deon Schultz and friend Chuck Ersham, Seneca, and Retta Annette Feldkamp and husband Steven, Seneca; a brother, Elmo Long, Seneca; a sister, Maxine Sisson, Manhattan; 14 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Albert, Harold and Ivan; three sisters, Esther Calkins, Opal Johnson, and Jean Holden; a daughter, Twila Long on October 31, 1980; and a grandson, Neil Long on November 13, 1986.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Centralia. The Rev. Deborah Hanes-Nelson will preside. Janelle Glatczak will be the organist. Casket bearers will be Paul Showalter, Douglas Long, Tom Long, Brenden Long, Jeff Long, and Gregory Long. Burial will be in the Centralia Cemetery. A visitation will be at the Hayes-Popkess Funeral Home, Centralia from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Centralia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be left to either the Centralia United Methodist Church or the Activity Department at Crestview Manor.
