Ruth Oom

February 24, 1956 — July 14, 2020

R uth Lorraine (Robinson) Oom, 64, of Sabetha, Kansas went home to be with her Creator and Heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 14, 2020.

Ruth was born to James and Martha (Koehler) Robinson on February 24, 1956 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated from William Tennant High School with the class of 1974 and attended Word of Life College the following years.

In 1987, she brought her family to the Midwest town of Sabetha. Her outgoing spirit and genuine love for her family, school, children, and local community was contagious. During her 24 years as a paraprofessional, at the Sabetha Elementary School, she built lifelong friendships and earned her infamous title of “Miss Ruth”. She had a servants heart and gave her time and love, with no conditions, which was reflected through her life and through her love for Jesus.

Motorcycle rides with her husband, traveling to see her daughters and grandchildren, and writing letters of encouragement played a large role in her life. Words cannot express how much she will be missed, but we are confident we will meet again.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Martha Robinson; her brother, James Robinson; her sister, Carol Sue Robinson; her nephew, Scott Keely; and her niece, Ashley Robinson.

Ruth is survived by her husband of over 16 years, Michael Oom, her six daughters, Kelly (Todd) Stratton, Danielle Nguyen, Heather (Jon) Lore, Carol Goodwin, Ruthie Nguyen and Cassie (Trent) Barrett; her step-daughter, Bridget (Scott) Harvey; her step-son, Robert Hobbs; her brother, Charlie (Judi) Robinson; and her sister; Martha Keely, along with eight grandchildren, many nieces and nephews as well as extended family.
