Virginia Huggins

V irginia K. (Nolte) Huggins, 90, of Sabetha, Kansas passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Sabetha, Kansas.

Virginia was born on June 4, 1930 in Seneca, Kansas, the daughter of Aloysius and Mary (Krogman) Nolte. She graduated from Sts. Peter and Paul School in Seneca in 1948. As a young woman she worked at the Sabetha Hospital and Dr. Rucker’s office.

On April 7, 1951, she married the love of her life, Irwin “Hug” Huggins at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca, and made their home in Sabetha. They were married 48 years until his death on June 15, 1999.

Virginia was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Ladies Altar Society and the Berwick Home Extension Unit. She worked at the Fountain Villa Nursing Home for many years. After her retirement, she continued to work as a personal care giver for several more years.

Virginia loved her family, church family and friends. She enjoyed antiquing, painting and baking. She was well known for her award-winning pies and paintings.

Survivors include sons; Mark (Rachel) Huggins of Topeka, Kansas, Patrick Huggins of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, daughters; Mary (Van) Corser of Ulysses, Kansas and Susan (Daniel) Tollefson of Aledo, Texas, nine grandchildren; Amy Smith, Matthew Huggins, Adam Huggins, Kevin Huggins, Gabriel Walton, Andrew Walton, Erin Oberschlake, Bradley Tollefson, Chase Tollefson, eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Keith Huggins, her five brothers; Cyril, Edwin, Charles, Sylvester and Regis Nolte and her three sisters; Loretta Niekamp, Lucille Feger and Marie Wessel Mulroy.

Virginia will lie in state at the Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha, Kansas on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 17, 2020 until Thursday morning. A Private Family Mass of Christian Burial will be held this week. A rosary will be recited on Saturday, November 21, 2020 prior to the 4:00 p.m. mass at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sabetha. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sabetha Community Hospital, or the Apostolic Christian Home, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia Street, Sabetha, KS 66534.
