Wayne Strahm

April 27, 1940 — November 22, 2020

W ayne Lee Strahm, aged 80, of Sabetha, KS went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 22, 2020.  He passed into eternal life from complications of COVID-19 with his wife and son by his side and his daughter and other family members at the window of his ICU room at the Mosaic Medical Center in St. Joseph, MO.

Wayne was born in Sabetha, KS on April 27, 1940 to the late Ephraim and Lorene (Marti) Strahm and was the oldest of five children.  He graduated from Sabetha High School and served his country in the National Guard for several years.  As a young man in his 20’s, Wayne gave his life to the Lord, repented of his sins and was baptized into Christ’s death at the Apostolic Christian Church of Bern where he faithfully worshipped for over 50 years.

Wayne was united in marriage at the Apostolic Christian Church in Wichita, KS to Claudia Ann Olsen on July 27, 1967 and they were happily married for 53 years.

Wayne was a machinist by trade and spent most of his working years at Wenger Manufacturing in Sabetha, KS enjoying the relationships he developed with the people with whom he worked and mentoring many in leadership.   After retiring from Wenger’s, Wayne became very involved in organic farming with a special interest in soil health.  He had many interests including metal working, woodworking, and lumber milling and loved to tinker in his shop.  Wayne had a special love for his grandchildren who have fond memories of the time he spent with them and the many family vacations he organized.  He also had a heart for young people and nearly always had one or two young boys employed on his farm.

Wayne will be dearly missed by those who he left behind.  He is survived by his wife Claudia, and his two children, Camille (Wayne) Hartzler of Creston, Ohio and Adrian (Harriet) Strahm of Sabetha, Hartzler grandchildren, Anna, Caleb (Morgan), Emily (Grant Anliker), Abigail, Leah and Isaac, and Strahm grandchildren, Laif, Alyssa, Alaina and Alison, his great grandson, Roland Anliker, his brother, Richard (Edie) Strahm of Sabetha, his sister, Shirley (Darrell) Rufener of Sterling, Ohio and his sister-in-law, Shelby Strahm of Sabetha.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Janette, and his brother, Dale.

A Private Funeral Service is planned on Monday, November 30, 2020. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bern Apostolic Christian Church, sent in care of Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia Street, Sabetha, KS 66534.
